Cause and Best Treatment of Upset Stomach

Have you ever experienced an upset stomach? Chances are you already have. But do you know what causes it? Do you how to treat it? Read on to know the answers.

One common cause is gastroesophageal reflux disease or what is commonly known as GERD. This happens when acids in your stomach that are normally needed for digestion flows back up in your esophagus. It gives a burning feeling in the chest area or what others describe as heartburn.

Another cause is the presence of Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori bacteria in the body. H. pylori are sometimes present in the mucous layer of your stomach that could lead to stomach ulcer.

Hiatus hernia can also cause stomach problems. The stomach is normally completely below your diaphragm. You have hiatus hernia when a portion of it or the sphincter moves up in the chest cavity.

Your lifestyle could also give you problems. Eating too fast for example can lead to indigestion which causes stomach pain. Drinking too much coffee and tea also irritates the tummy. Even seemingly unrelated act like smoking also contributes to the problem.

There are several ways to treat an upset stomach. There are over-the-counter medications available like antacids and antispasmodic pills. Antacids neutralize the acids in your stomach to stop the burning sensation. Antispasmodic pills on the other hand controls the spasms you feel.

Aside from these medications there are also home remedies available. You can drink ginger tea or mint tea. These two types of tea relieve stomach pain and they help facilitate proper digestion. You can also take fiber rich food to help in the digestion process. Fiber also helps in waste elimination that relieves pain caused by constipation or by simply just being too full.

Lastly, major lifestyle change can help. Avoid drinking tea, coffee and alcoholic drinks. You should also avoid eating too much and eating too fast.

All these can help you solve your upset stomach problems.
