6 Common Causes of Severe Indigestion
Have you ever experienced having an eat-all-you-can meal? If you had, you probably did everything you can to eat every viand available to either taste all the food presented or get your money’s worth. If you did there is a big chance that you experienced severe indigestion after.
Apart from eating too much, there are other causes of indigestion. Here are some of them.

1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease commonly known as GERD is a common cause of indigestion. GERD causes the digestive acids in your stomach to flow back up your esophagus. This acid reflux causes esophageal irritation and heartburn. For those who do not know about GERD and heartburn, the pain in the chest that they experience is sometimes thought of as a heart problem.
2. Ulcer is also a cause of indigestion. Ulcer can develop in several areas of the digestive tract like the esophagus, stomach and small intestines. Signs of ulcer are abdominal pain and burning sensation in your stomach. When you have ulcer you may also see blood in your stool.
3. Functional dyspepsia is also another cause. It is a chronic condition that gives you a feeling of being too full after meals. Sometimes you already feel full even before you finish a meal. Bloating and belching also accompanies this problem.
4. Eating too fast also causes indigestion. Your body is not given ample to time to properly digest the food you have eaten. Eating too fast and eating too much together can lead to severe indigestion.
5. Drinking tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages also do the same. These drinks irritate the stomach so you also feel pain. For some people these drinks cap every meal. If this has been your practice, you may want to alter it now to avoid further problems.
6. Some medications also cause indigestion. Antibiotics and aspirin are used to treat some diseases but you must consult your doctor if you have experienced abdominal pain after taking them.
These six causes of severe indigestion are things that can be prevented or controlled. You just need to consult your doctor to guide you with what you can do to address them.
